With XFX’s Radeon HD 5870 you can not only take on existing games but next generation DirectX 11 titles as well. The Eyefinity is also nothing short of impressive.

if you’re ready to buy a high-end video card right now, we know of nothing better than the Radeon HD 5870. The XFX HD 5870 performed admirably. Benchmark scores were phenomenal and the level of performance that this card offers even at stock is high above the last generations capabilities. All of the required accessories were included as well as some that just make the job of installing the card easier. The free game voucher is a nice touch - Dirt 2 should be out in early December and will show off DirectX 11.

High performance and overclockability, good temperatures, great packaging, and a free game are all ingredients for the recipe of a winner - this time the XFX HD 5870 1GB.

But if you don’t play games with PhysX effects, the XFX Radeon HD 5850 Black Edition is going to be a better buy. It is faster, quieter, smaller, more economical and has more advanced functionality than the EVGA card. Additionally, the XFX outperforms the ordinary Radeon HD 5850 due to factory overclocking.

If you’re looking to buy yourself a gaming card, you can’t go wrong with XFX HD 5850 Black Edition card. Although the card is overclocked, XFX decided against changing reference cooling. This was probably a wise move as thermals are very good and comparable to those on the reference card. The card’s GPU comes overclocked by 40MHz and the memory by 125MHz, but that wasn’t the maximum as we managed to push the GPU up to 930MHz without changing voltage or meddling with fan rpm. We managed to score about 12% better on top of already 6% higher results the HD 5850 Black Edition scored versus the reference HD 5850.

This card did very decently in most of the benchmarks. Microsoft DirectX 11 isn't out yet, but the card will be ready for when it does arrive. The ATI Eyefinity capability is another cool feature of the 5-series cards, gaming can easily become more impressive and enthralling with games spanning across multiple monitor setups - not to mention it makes it even easier to setup an in-home flight simulator. The lengths that this card is willing to overclock to are phenomenal as well, running the fan at 100% wasn't necessary either (it was just noisier) and didn't help the maximum overclock but a 20% overclock on both the core and memory is always awesome!

Performance of this card is akin to about ½ a HD 5850 as the card has ½ the SPs, TMUs, ROPs and 128-bit memory interface. Overall for those people wanting DX11 support or just a VGA card that decently plays gamesat a resolution of 1920X1200, this new lineup may be satisfactory for your needs. XFX has the best warranty. This graphics card is perfect for the avid user who doesn’t want to spend a mass amount of money whilst getting great value and performance. You may remember the ATI Radeon HD5750 1GB graphics card review that we did a week ago, this card is using the same GPU but has a bit more power squeezed out of it, and slightly better benchmark results. XFX are a trusted brand in the graphics card world and a card with great performance, amazing value, and the latest technologies coming from them is bound for greatness. That’s why i’m giving this graphics card 5 out of 5 stars.
